Jatoi (tribe)
Jatoi (Urdu: جتوئی) is a Baloch tribe settled in Balochistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces of Pakistan. Many Jatoi Baloch people currently live in/near Thatta, Balochistan.[1] The languages spoken by Jatoi tribe are Siraiki, Baluchi and Sindhi according to their area of settlement.
Family, ancestry and history
They are the descendants of Bibi Jato, the daughter of Jalal Khan (the founder and former leader of the Baloch people) and the sister of the other four founders of the main Baloch tribes: King Hoth, Rind Khan, Lashar Khan and Kora Khan. Bibi Jato was married to her father’s nephew Murad.
Being the descendants of Jalal Khan makes them direct descendants of Ameer Hamza, the uncle of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad[2]. After the fight against second Ummayad Caliph Yazid I at Karbala (in which Ameer Hamza’s descendants supported and fought alongside Husayn ibn Ali) in 680, descendants of Ameer Hamza went off to settle in the east or southeast of the central Caspian region, specially toward Sistan, Iran. Though the main ancestral homeland of the Baloch is believed to be Halab (Aleppo) in modern day Syria.
