Hoth Khan Baloch

Hoth/Hoath Khan Baloch was the ruler of modern day Balochistan and one of the four sons of Jalal Khan (the founder of the Baloch). He was one of the five founding members of the five main Baloch divisions/tribes. The Hoth people are the direct descendants of Hoth Khan. He ruled Balochistan around 12CE.[1]

Family

Because of the fact that he was the son of the legendary Jalal Khan,[2] he was the brother of the other Balochi tribe’s founders Rind Khan, Lashar Khan, Kora Khan, and Bibi Jato. He had two uncles from his father’s side, Mir Ali and Mir Nos[3].

King Hoth is also believed to be the grandfather of Mir Punnhun Khan (Mir Dostein Hoth), from the story/folklore “Sassui Punnhun” because it’s believed that Mir Dostein Hoth’s father (Mir Aalii) was the son of King Hoth.[4]

He too similarly to the rest of the Baloch people has a strong possibility to be distantly related to the Oghuz Turks, Seljuks and Kurds and as well as the Ayyubids. Though the connection to the Ayyubids is more theoretical than fact based, no authentic sources available on this matter.

King Hoth was rivals with his older brother[5] Rind Khan.[3]

Ancestry

Being the son of Jalal Khan, he was a descendant of the Islamic Prophet Muhammad’s beloved uncle, Ameer Hamza.[6][7] This makes him and all Baloch the descendants of the Arabian clan Banu Hashim from the Quraish tribe.

His ancestors are believed to be native to Aleppo, modern day Syria.[7] But the only valid proof of proving this is an old piece of poetry.

Baloch history

After the fight against second Ummayad Caliph Yazid I at Karbala (in which Ameer Hamza’s descendants supported and fought alongside Husayn ibn Ali) in 680, descendants of Ameer Hamza went off to settle in the east or southeast of the central Caspian region, specially toward Sistan, Iran.
