Gopalapatnam
Gopalapatnam is a neighborhood in the city of Visakhapatnam, India. The neighborhood is considered as the major residential and commercial area in the district. It is located within the jurisdiction of the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, which is responsible for the civic amenities in Gopalapatnam. Gopalapatnam mandal is one of the 46 mandals of Visakhapatnam District. It is under the administration of Visakhapatnam revenue division and the headquarters is located at Gopalapatnam. The Mandal is bounded by Gajuwaka, Seethammadhara and Pendurthi mandals.[2]

Location and Geography
Gopalapatnam has located about 4 km from Visakhapatnam Airport and about 8 km from Visakhapatnam railway station. The neighborhood is served by Simhachalam railway station of the Waltair Division. The station is located at the center of the neighborhood connecting the Highways NH-16 and SH-39.[3]
Gopalapatnam lies to the west of Visakhapatnam City and is loosely bordered by Gajuwaka to the south and Seethammadhara to the north, Pendurthi to the west, Marripalem to the east.[4]
Etymology
Gopalapatnam was named after Sri Gopala Raju. He used to rule Kota gutta, Enugula Dwaram, Gurrala Cheruvu, Taati Penda areas which were united to form the present Gopalapatnam.
Industry
LG polymers is operating a 200 acres styrene plant at RR Venkatapuram near Gopalapatnam (see Visakhapatnam gas leak).
Transport
Gopalapatnam is well connected by road. NH16 or AH45 and SH39 passes through the mandal.[5] It also has major District roads connecting it to nearby mandals and Visakhapatnam. APSRTC runs bus services from Gopalapatnam bus station to major parts of the state and Visakhapatnam.
