East Hancock, Maine

East Hancock is an unorganized territory in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 94 at the 2010 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the unorganized territory has a total area of 481.2 square miles (1,246.4 km²), of which 444.3 square miles (1,150.6 km²) is land and 37.0 square miles (95.8 km²) (7.68%) is water.

The territory consists of thirteen townships located along the northern and eastern border of the county.

At the 2000 census there were 73 people in 32 households, including 18 families, in the unorganized territory. The population density was 0.2 people per square mile (0.1/km²). There were 580 housing units at an average density of 1.3/sq mi (0.5/km²). The racial makeup of the unorganized territory was 97.26% White, 1.37% Native American, and 1.37% from two or more races.[3] Of the 32 households 18.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.1% were married couples living together, 3.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 43.8% were non-families. 34.4% of households were one person and 15.6% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.83.

The age distribution was 17.8% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 20.5% from 25 to 44, 38.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.4% 65 or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females, there were 92.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.5 males.

The median household income was $31,875 and the median family income was $42,500. Males had a median income of $32,083 versus $12,083 for females. The per capita income for the unorganized territory was $18,156. There were no families and 2.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 13.3% of those over 64.
