Central Hancock, Maine

Central Hancock, also known as Fletchers Landing, is an unorganized territory (township) in Hancock County, Maine, United States. The population was 117 at the 2010 census. The territory is designated as Township 8 Southern Division.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the unorganized territory has a total area of 16.1 square miles (41.6 km²), of which 15.2 square miles (39.4 km²) is land and 0.9 square mile (2.2 km²) (5.29%) is water.

At the 2000 census there were 138 people in 61 households, including 35 families, in the unorganized territory. The population density was 9.1 people per square mile (3.5/km²). There were 102 housing units at an average density of 6.7/sq mi (2.6/km²). The racial makeup of the unorganized territory was 94.93% White, 1.45% Native American, and 3.62% from two or more races.[3] Of the 61 households 29.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.1% were married couples living together, 14.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.6% were non-families. 31.1% of households were one person and 4.9% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.89.

The age distribution was 23.9% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 31.2% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 10.9% 65 or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 126.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 110.0 males.

The median household income was $25,750 and the median family income was $33,958. Males had a median income of $26,429 versus $21,591 for females. The per capita income for the unorganized territory was $12,286. There were 15.2% of families and 20.7% of the population living below the poverty line, including 14.3% of under eighteens and 33.3% of those over 64.
