Civic Conservative Party (Czech Republic)

Civic Conservative Party (Czech: Občanská konzervativní strana, OKS or O.K. strana) is a national conservative political party based in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 2013 as a split from the Civic Democratic Party by Jiří Janeček.[4]

History

In February 2013, Jiří Janeček founded so-called Right faction within the Civic Democratic Party (ODS). It consisted of more than 300 members of the party. Janeček stated that the fraction aims to help the party from its problems.[5][6] Janeček's activity was criticised by many prominent members of ODS. Janeček left position of the Chairman of the Prague 11 organisation of ODS.[7]

In November 2017, Janeček announced that the faction leaves ODS and will become Civic Conservative Party. Janeček stated that ODS left ideas it was founded with. OKS had 2,000 supporters within ODS.[8][9]

OKS participated in 2014 european election. It launched campaign on 15 April 2014. The party was led by Pavel Černý. [10]The party failed to win any seats as it received only 0.22% of votes.

In 2014, OKS became one of founding members of the Movement for a Europe of Nations and Freedom. Other members of the movement are French National Front and Freedom Party of Austria.[11][12]

Some media reported in 2016 that OKS will be merged with Patriots of the Czech Republic. The merger never happened.[13]

Ideology

The Party's program emphasizes "the creation of a stable economic environment, a balanced budget, low taxes, as well as a significant reduction in immigration and in particular Islamization."[14] The party is staunchly anti-communist with former members of the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia not being allowed to join.
