Child marriage in Burundi
Child Marriage in Burundi. In 2017 in Burundi, 20% of girls are married off before the 18 yo. 3% are married before they turn 15.[1]
According to ASASS-Burundi, early and forced marriage hinders efforts to prevent HIV transmission because early sexual contact puts girls at a higher risk of sexual health problems, including HIV infection.[2]
Burundian girls still suffer the consequences of forced marriage especially when they are pregnant before adult age[3]
