Biden family

The Biden family is an American political family. William Biden (c. 1790–1840) left England and settled in Maryland from which the Bidens can be linked back to.[1] Irish genealogists presented Joe Biden with his Irish maternal family history on his visit there in 2016.[2]

Some members of the family include:

  • Joe Biden (Joseph R. Biden Jr.), Vice President of the United States (2009–2017), presumptive Democratic presidential nominee (2020), Democratic presidential candidate (1988, 2008), Senator from Delaware (1973–2009)
  • Beau Biden (Joseph R. Biden III) (1969–2015)[3], Attorney General of Delaware and son of Joe Biden. Two children: Natalie and Hunter.
  • Hunter Biden (Robert Hunter Biden), former businessman and son of Joe Biden.[4] He has three children with his first wife, Kathleen – daughters Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy. Hunter is the biological and legal father of a fourth child, identified in court documents as NJR, with Lunden Roberts[5]. He has a fifth child on the way with his second wife, Melissa Cohen Biden[6].
  • Jill Biden, Former Second Lady of the United States; educator; and second wife of Joe Biden
  • Neilia Hunter Biden, first wife of Joe Biden.
  • Naomi Christina Biden (1971–1972)
  • Ashley Biden

Joe Biden married Neilia Hunter in 1966, and they had two sons and a daughter (Naomi Christina). In December 1972, while Joe Biden was Senator-elect, Neilia and Naomi were killed in a traffic crash which injured his two sons, who recovered from their injuries.[7][8] Joe Biden married his second wife, Jill, in 1977, and together they had a daughter, Ashley.[8] In May 2015, his son Beau died of brain cancer.[9]
