  • 30 March – a group of People's Liberation Party-Front of Turkey militants headed by Mahir Çayan who had kidnapped two British and one Canadian technician were killed after a gunfight.
  • 7 May – In the kurultay (congress) of the Republican People's Party (CHP) Bülent Ecevit the former secretary general of the party defeated party leader İsmet İnönü.
