University Džemal Bijedić of Mostar (Bosnian: Univerzitet "Džemal Bijedić" u Mostaru/Универзитет "Џемал Биједић" у Мостару) is a public university lcoated in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was established in 1993 and is named after Yugoslav politician Džemal Bijedić. It consists of eight faculties.

History

The University Džemal Bijedić of Mostar

During the Croat-Bosniak War in May 1993, the university's assets were appropriated by Croatian activists and the school renamed as Sveučilište u Mostaru; Croatian was adopted as its official language. Muslim professors left and established a new university with the old name (University Džemal Bijedić).

At that time, sparse teaching and administrative staff led to problems, but with great effort and sacrifice the university managed to partially resolve a number of problems, so working conditions are now more favorable than in the past.[1] 250 teachers and staff are employed. In the academic year 2008-09, University Džemal Bijedić has enrolled approximately 12,000 students.[2]

A study of languages has evolved in the Faculty of Humanities, School of Informatics, Faculty of Information Technology and Culture in the Study agromediteranskih Agromediterranean college. Faculty of Economics, was transformed into the Faculty of Business Management, Teacher Training College Teaching in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department was introduced to computer engineering, the Faculty has introduced new courses at two-year study: Business Administration, Public Administration and Management for Commercial Business.[3]

Teaching the scientific process is performed in about 4500 m² učioničkog, laboratory and cabinet space in the campus (a former military barracks "North Camp"). Such small space has been a serious limiting factor for the development of the University.[4]

In February 2003 the university's council adopted a Plan of Institutional Development in 2003-10. A number of weaknesses that have been demonstrated so far in the organization and governance of universities has led to the realization of the necessity of implementing higher education reform. With the introduction of new forms of organization and integration, and changes in management, the university will meet the demands for harmonization of higher education and to engage as an equal partner in the international university network.[5]
