International Burch University was established in 2008 in Sarajevo, capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the goal of presenting a unique opportunity to rethink the very idea of a modern university and formulate a blueprint for the future. Upon the Sarajevo Canton Ministry of Education decision, teaching process was started according to Bologna System of Education (3+2+3) entirely in English language.

Burch University began with a determined mission: “To advance learning and transform lives”. Now University pursues to adapt successfully to the needs of students by investing in world-class facilities for teaching, learning, research and recreation. With some of the highest quality teaching and research and the broadest spread o academic subjects, we will be able to complete in order being recognized as one of the leading universities in the region.

International Burch University (IBU) is the member of the private Stirling Education family, well known on the ground of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the success its students shows participating various educational competitions on federal, country and international level. Stirling Education offers the education in seven schools from primary school, through college up to university in cities of Tuzla, Bihac, Zenica and Sarajevo.

University organization

There are three faculties at International Burch University:

Faculty of Education and Humanities

There are three departments within the faculty:

The duration of study is 4+1+3. The language of instruction is English, with the exception of Oriental Philology, in which classes are fully conducted in Turkish.

Upon completion of the first cycle of their studies, students are awarded degrees of:

  • Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature
  • Bachelor of Arts in Turkish Language and Literature
  • Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design and Multimedia

Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences

There are four departments within the faculty:

Department of Management within the Faculty of Economics offers the following majors:

  • Management and Information Technologies
  • Marketing Management
  • Financial Management

The duration of study is 3+2+3 and the language of instruction is English.

Upon completion of the first cycle of their studies, students are awarded the degree of:

  • Bachelor of Science in Management
  • Bachelor of Science in International Relations and European Studies
  • Bachelor of Science in International Business
  • Bachelor of Science in Banking and Finance

Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences

There are five departments within the faculty:

Duration of study is on the 3+2+3 bases and graduating students are awarded degrees of:

  • Bachelor of Science in Information Technologies
  • Bachelor of Science in Genetics and Bioengineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Architecture
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

English Language Preparatory School

With the exception of the Department of Oriental Philology, all classes in Burch University are conducted entirely in English. In this regard, applicants should submit a valid certificate of English Language Proficiency or take the examination offered by the University.

For applicants who do not meet the requisites of the English Proficiency, the University offers Language Preparatory School for the periods of one or two semesters, depending on the applicant’s knowledge and progress.

Master and Doctoral Studies

For the students at Burch University, studying for a postgraduate qualification is done on a full-time basis. The following graduate programs and disciplines are available at Burch University and the number continued to increase:

Scholarships

Burch university has the policy of supporting high achieving students by providing them partial or full exemption from payment of the tuition fee. There are several ways of getting the scholarship at Burch:

  • Scholarship Exam

All 4th grade high school students from ex-Yugoslavia countries are eligible to attend the Scholarship exam organized by Burch university in several exam centres all around Bosnia Herzegovina. The exam takes place in the last week of March each year and is consisted of the range of questions from different subjects of high school curriculum (you can download Scholarship exam sample here). Based on their results, students can accomplish 5% to 100% scholarships for all study programs at Burch university.

  • Success scholarships

Each year at the beginning of April, Burch university makes an announcement for success scholarships. Announcement remains opened until the end of May and 4th grade high school students are eligible to apply. Criteria for evaluation includes but is not limited to High school grade average, success in Canton, entity, state or international level competitions, science and innovation fairs, extracurricular activities, NGO engagement and students performance at the interview. Rules and regulations related to success scholarship can change each year so stay alert for the announcement at the university website for specific requirements. The range of scholarships provided based on success varies from 5% to 90% of the tuition fee.

  • Sports scholarships

Each year in the summer, Burch university makes the announcement for sports scholarships. Rules and regulations related to sports scholarships can change every year so stay alert for the announcement at the university website for specific requirements and branches of sports that will be given scholarships for the year you are applying for.

  • Pre-registration

All students who sign a pre-contract for studying at Burch in pre-registration period that lasts from April 1st till May 31st are eligible for an extra 5% discount on their overall tuition fee.

Students Club Activities

In addition to the daily lectures students may spend part of their leisure time at the University by participating:

Genetics Club club aim is to: gather people who are interested in genetics and bioengineering and share similar interests and to educate and share information through organizing different activities such as seminars, guest lectures and conferences.

Computer Club the Computer Club is a group of IT Students, computer addicts, and beginners who want to teach and learn about computing and have fun doing it. The club is a social nonprofit group that meets monthly or often to share activities, information and knowledge. They discuss members’ career, issues and problems with computers, plan activities, hold working bees, even demonstrations of new technologies, workshops and excursions.

Architecture Club in the second generation of students of the Architecture, one group of students established the "Art&Architecture Club" to serve as the field for all those students who need more space to express their ideas.

Techno Burch members aim is to be the future leaders of the technology era. We are dedicated to form a community of prospective engineers and pave the way in this rising field of research and innovation by organizing debates, field trips, inviting experts to give speeches, mentoring the less experienced colleagues and encouraging creative thinking and innovations that set the pace and break existing barriers for a better world...

SAS Club The club works to promote awareness and action on social, cultural, and environmental issues on campus at International Burch University and beyond to the local community. Some of the issues that the club is passionate about are the food crisis, street children in the region, regional poverty, global warming and women’s rights. The Club of Social Aid and Solidarity strongly believes that social change begins with individual effort, and transfers into the benefit with collective act.

The Linguistics Club at International Burch University is a student-run organization that seeks to foster community within the English Department, as well as reach out to non-Linguistics students who have an interest in this field. Proof of students work within this club is COURIER of the Linguistics magazine published recently.

Dialogue and Culture Club offers instruction in represented nationalities languages of IBU as well as in other aspects of foreign culture such as art, music, literature. The Club’s vision is to serve the IBU community by identifying the needs of the students and designing and implementing activities that will allow meeting those needs and to promote culture, dialogue, language, literature and arts in the IBU.

Business Development Club members organize workshops and aims to establish international business cooperation. Members of the club also organize conferences with eminent field specialists such as bank managers, eminent professors, directors and other inventive people.

Harmony Music Societyaims to iintroduce the public to the world of music and increase awareness; share joys of music in different genres; encourage the sharing of individual knowledge and talent through joined activities; organize workshops, instrument courses, mini concerts and other performances; bring out the artistic knowledge and talents of the students studying at IBU; generate a music community and network at an academic level at home and abroad.

Embedded Systems Design Club is a newly founded club where students from faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technologies organize workshops, trips and competitions for its members. They learn and teach about microcontrollers, boards and practical skills necessary for building embedded systems.

Library

The library has thousands of books in the field of Economics, Information Technology, Humanities, Literature, Linguistics, Pedagogic, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Students also have access to digital CD / DVD, audio files. IBU has signed Cooperation Agreement with the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NUB), which offers students sources from their rich archives, reading rooms and a multimedia room, a database of all scientific fields and other services from their activities.

Apart from this, the library possesses computers used by the staff with the purpose to search electronic bases (EBSCO, ELSEIVER, EMERAL SCIENCE DIRECT, IXXX EXPLORE, as well as 27 more electronic databases). The library uses library online program „KOHU“ which provides connection with world's greatest library universities, such as: New York public Library, Columbia university, New York university Libraries, university Library, Smithsonian institution Libraries.

Sport and Culture

Students in addition to a variety of personal development activities in academic fields regularly organize sports and cultural activities. Students have the opportunity of using gym and sports hall.

KK Burch is the first basketball club founded by a private university, in this case the International Burch University. In this project, we can see the thread of the American way of education, where students, besides quality education, also have the opportunity to show a sporting talent. And where these two components are united and hopeful, success cannot be missed.
