Trans-Sumatra Toll Road

Trans-Sumatra Toll Road is an under-construction toll road from Aceh in the north to Lampung in the south along the east of Sumatra Island in Indonesia. This toll road was meant to be connected to the more established highway systems of Java through the Sunda Strait Bridge, but the construction of the bridge is cancelled [1]. The construction of the highway has continued, with side branches connecting cities of Padang[2], Bengkulu[3], and Sibolga[4] on the western coast of the island with the more populated eastern coast in addition to linking both the northern and southern tips.

Estimated cost is about Rp 273 Trillion (US$ 20.46 Billion) for the toll's entire length[5]. The road's length is planned to be more than 2,800 km, consists of 17 main lines (segments), and 7 connecting lines. As of 2018, part of the toll road is already operational[6].

Main line toll roads

Total length of the toll roads is 2,048 km, consists of:[7]Trans-Sumatra Toll Road will be 2,048 kilometers long and 12.5 meters wide, and is divided into four main corridors and three priority corridors. The four main corridors are Lampung-Palembang (358 kilometers), Palembang-Pekanbaru (610 kilometers), Pekanbaru-Medan (548 kilometers), and Medan-Banda Aceh (460 kilometers). The three priority corridors are Palembang-Bengkulu (303 kilometers), Pekanbaru-Padang (242 kilometers), and Medan-Sibolga (175 kilometers).[8]

4. Lubuk Linggau–Curup–Bengkulu (95 km)

5.Pekanbaru–Bengkinang–Payakumbuh–Bukittinggi (185 km)

6. Bukittinggi–Padang Panjang–Lubuk Alung–Padang (5 km)

7. Tebing Tinggi–Pematang Siantar–Prapat–Tarutung–Sibolga (200 km)

Ground-breaking

Ground-breaking of the toll road was held on October 10, 2014.[9]

Toll roads progress

  • Bakauheni–Terbanggi Besar, in January 5, 2018, constructions progress is 64.5 percent, with predicted daily traffic is 16,097 vehicles/day:[10][11]
    • Section 1: Bakauheni-Sidomulyo, 39.4 kilometers length, on January 21, 2018, 9 kilometers from Port to Bakauheni Interchange has been operated[12]
    • Section 2: Sidomulyo-Kotabaru, 40.5 kilometers length, on January 21, 2018, 5 kilometers from Lematang Interchange to Kota Baru Interchange has been operated
    • Section 3: Kotabaru-Metro, 29.0 kilometers length
    • Section 4: Metro-Terbanggi Besar, 31.8 kilometers length
  • Pekanbaru-Dumai, it is the longest segment of the toll road, in July 2017, 20 kilometers has been land cleared:[13]
    • Section 1: Pekanbaru-Minas, 9.5 kilometers length
    • Section 2: Minas-Petapahan, 24.0 kilometers length
    • Section 3: Petapahan-Kandis Utara, 17.0 kilometers length
    • Section 4: Kandis Utara-Duri Selatan, 26.0 kilometers length
    • Section 5: Duri Selatan-Duri Utara, 28.0 kilometers length
    • Section 6: Duri Utara-Dumai, 25.0 kilometers length
  • Tebingtinggi-Medan:
    • Section 1: Simpang Tanjung Morawa-Simpang Perbarakan, 7.5 kilometers length[14]
    • Section 2 - Section 6: Simpang Perbarakan-Sei Rampah, 41.7 kilometers length, is opened on October 13, 2017[15]
    • Section 7: Sei Rampah-Tebingtinggi, 8.87 kilometers length
  • Medan-Binjai, in April 2017:[16]
    • Section 1: Tanjungmulia-Helvetia, 6.071 kilometers length, land acquisition progress 67.49 percent and constructions progress 16.715 percent
    • Section 2: Helvetia-Sei Semayang, 9.051 kilometers length, land acquisition progress 97.11 percent and constructions progress 88.43 percent
    • Section 3: Sei Semayang-Binjai, 10.319 kilometers length, land acquisition progress 99.48 percent and constructions progress 86.27 percent
  • Palembang-Indralaya, Share portion, 70 percent Hutama Karya and 30 percent Sarana Multi Infrastruktur, in October 2017:[17]
    • Section 1: Palembang-Pamulutan, 7.75 kilometers length, is opened on October 12, 2017
    • Section 2: Pamulutan-KTM S. Rambutan, 4.90 kilometers length, is predicted opened in March 2018
    • Section 3: KTM S. Rambutan-Indralaya, 9.28 kilometers length, land acquisition progress 98 percent and constructions progress 83 percent, is predicted opened in December 2017
