Thottumukkam

Thottumukkam is a village in the district of Kozhikode, Kerala, India under the administration of Kodiyathur Grama Panchayath; it is bordered by Karassery Grama Pabchayath of Kozhikode district and Urgattiri Grama Panchayath of Malappuram district. Most of the people in the village are migrated farmers. The southern border of the village is the hills known as Mysoormala, which consists of 732 acres of surplus land. In recent years a number of granite quarries started functioning in Mysoormala and, as a result, the village is now polluted.

Administration

The area is administered by the Kodiyathur Grama Panchayth, headed by a Grama Panchayth President. For administrative purposes, it is divided into 2 wards: Thottumukkam and Thottumukkam Pallithazhe, from which the members of the council are elected for five years. K C Nadikkutty[1] of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Sunny Vellanchira[2] of the Communist Party of India are the present members of Grama Panchayath Council. Mr George M Thomas , Member of Legislative Assembly, also a native of Thottumukkom. Some of the political leaders are supporting quarry mafia for surplus land encroachment.

Transportation

Thottumukkam is connected to both Kozhikode and Malappuram district through roads. Continues and regular bus services connecting Thottumukkam to Area code town of Malappuram, Mukkam and Thiruvambady towns of Kozhikode regularly.
