Idolator said that it is "armed with some of the hottest beats of the year and the most chillingly earnest lyrics", rating it 4 out of 5.[10]

HipHopDX maintained that The Beautiful & Damned "possesses enough serious assertiveness and classic Bay area slick talk to burn well into 2018", giving it 3.9 out of 5.[11] Billboard described the album as compelling and confessional.[12]

In a negative review, Consequence of Sound gave the album a D+, noting that G-Eazy "only has one emotional state" and described it as cliched.[13]
