This race featured a franchise-first visit to Laos as the international destination for the season; a country which was never visited in the original American edition.

This season saw modifications for the penalties in a non-elimination leg. While the usual stripping of money penalty was remained, the "Marked for Elimination" penalty had increased from 30-minutes to 45-minutes. While the penalty for Leg 2 remained at 30-minutes, the penalties for Leg 4 and 8 are increased to 45-minutes. This is currently the only season in the Vietnam edition where the U-Turn was absent.
