Teruel Airport (IATA: TEV, ICAO: LETL) is an airport near Teruel, Teruel (Province), Spain. Plataforma Aeroportuaira-Teruel (PLATA) was certified for public use by the Spanish Aviation Safety and Security Agency (AESA), on 5 February 2013. Permission for air operations was granted by the Spanish Aviation Authority and the Government of Aragon on 28 February 2013. It serves as an aircraft maintenance and aircraft storage for the Tarmac Aerosave company.
PLATA is owned by a consortium formed by the Government of Aragon and Teruel City Council, and it does not belong to AENA Group.
Teruel is located between the largest cities in Spain: Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Zaragoza and Bilbao (60% of Spanish GDP and more than 20 million people in the 400 km surroundings).
Rocket testing
In early August 2018, PLD Space and the Teruel Airport Consortium signed the concession for a 13,337 m2 space at the airport for the PLD Space to test launcher technology. The agreement has a period of 25 years, with the option of an additional 10-year extension. PLD Space will invest Euro €1M in infrastructure for the construction of a new control room, offices, access paths, a rocket engine maintenance hangar and a new test bench to test the complete ARION 1 rocket. Testing had been conducted for the three years previously, on a short-term contracted basis.[1]
