Ayatullah Syed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi (Arabic: آيت الله السيد عقيل الغروى) also known as Allama Aqeel-ul-Gharavi (born 2 February 1964) is a prominent Indian Shia scholar, philosopher and a mujtahid.[1] Aqeel Gharavi is one of the most highly regarded scholars not only in the Indian subcontinent but the whole world. He was the principal of Hauz-e-Ilmia Jamiat-us-Saqalain, Delhi[2] and co-supervisor of Safinatul Hidaya Trust, India.[3] He is the current vice-President of All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat, a conglomeration of various Indian Muslim organizations[4] and member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board. He is also a member of the Majma Jahani Ahlulbayt, Iran.

He is currently appointed representative of Majma Taghrib by Ayatullah Sheikh Mohsen Araki for the Indian sub-continent.

Early life and Education

Ayatollah Syed Aqeel Gharavi was born in India but his whole family migrated to Najaf from India when he was very young.In Najaf he got his primary education.Later he and his family again shifted to India and he started his secondary education. After completing his secondary education in India, he decided to study religion in Qom despite of his interest in medical sciences. In Qom he studied under many teachers.[5]

In 1994, he got ijazah for ijtihad from Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi and from then, he became a mujtahid.[6]

  7. Since 1999, Syed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi is addressing majalis in Pakistan.

In Lahore, he addressed five majalis in 2003 at 6-B, Model Town, Lahore. Since then, he has been coming to Lahore and addressing at various venues from 2003-2010 specially at 6-B, Model Town and "Imam Bargah Gulistan-e-Zahra (sa)" at Abbot Road, Lahore on different topics like theology, philosophy, science & Islam etc.

In 2007, Allama Syed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi extended his visit to Multan. He addressed two majalis at "Imambargah Haideria", Gulghast Colony and one at Mumtazabad.

In month of Muharram, 2007, Ayatullah Syed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi visited the boys and girls campuses of Fatimiyah College.[7]

In 2008, he addressed majlis at ""Imambargah Shah Gardez" on the topic "Aqal aur Ishq". Allama Aqueel-ul-Gharavi also addressed majlis in Kuwait.

In 2009, Syed Aqeel-ul-Gharavi addressed majalis in Sargodha, Punjab, Pakistan at Dar ul uloom Muhammadia ( دارالعلوم محمدیہ ) on 1 and 2 February 2009 on the topic Ramz-e-Quran.

In 2011, he addressed majlis at Imambargah Shah Gradez and Imambarghah Haideria, Gulghast colony from 1 to 3 January 2011 on the topic of Khatam e Nubuwwat.

In 2012 and 2013, Syed Aqeel addressed majalis in different cities of Pakistan like Lahore, Karachi, and Multan.


In March-2014 Ayatullah Aqeel-ul-Gharavi visited City of Edmonton, Alberta Canada on the invitation of HCECA of Edmonton to address three Majalis in connection of Ayam E Fatmiah at Hussaini Centre.

In 2015, Syed Aqeel Garai addressed Majlis at Babul Murad centre in London, UK in the month of Muharram and also in Pakistan.


In 2016, Syed Aqeel Garai addressed Majlis at 6-B Model town, Lahore and Iammabrgah Rubat e Haideria Muhala Shia Kashmirian Mochi Gate, Lahore.He also addressed majlis in Karachi.

In 2017, Syed Aqeel ul Gharavi visited India and addressed majalis and seminars in the cities like Lucknow,Delhi and Hyderabad.He also addressed majlis of Arbaeen in Karbala in 2017 like he did in 2016.

Residence

Ayatollah Aqeel Gharavi currently resides in London and addresses majalis e aza at Babul Murad Centre.[8]
