Sunil Bahadur Thapa (Nepali: सुनील बहादुर थापा) (Born 14 April 1959) is a Nepali Politician who is currently serving as Ministry of Industry (Nepal). He is the son of five time prime minister of Nepal, Surya Bahadur Thapa. He has recently won in the Constituent Assembly of Nepal.[1]

Thapa who was serving in the United Nations High Commission for Refugee in Sudan had resigned from the UN Service in 2011 and joined Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).[2] He was elected in the Central Committee of RPP in 2012.[3] He is a director of Himalayan Bank in Nepal.[4] Sunil is the only son of former PM Surya Bahadur Thapa

Career

From (1988-2013) He has served in the UNHCR on the various positions and travelled Sri Lanka, India, Australia, Iran, Pakistan, during his work. Moreover, he has done his internship with UNFPA, New York, United States. Instead of UNHCR he has worked as the lecturer in the center for Economic Development and Administrator CEDA, Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu. Moreover, He has worked as a project chief and convener of Management System and Administration Group Research on Rural and comparatively development activities in Nepal.

Political career

In 2012 August he joined Rastriya Janashakti Party as a member and served till April 2013. In May 2013 he elected as member of central working committee of Rastriya Prajatantra Party and also served as coordinator of Foreign Affairs Development. In the election of 2013 he was elected as parliament member from Dhankuta to representing Rastriya Prajatantra Party. From April 2014 – October 2015, he served as the minister of commerce and supplies of Government of Nepal. In March 2017 he was nominated as General Secretary of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). Since September 2017 he is serving as the Minister of Industries.

Education

Thapa received Master of Arts (MA) degree in Government, with emphasis in public Administration. From Claremont Graduate School, Claremont, California, U.S.A. Thapa completed his formal school education in 1975 from St. Xavier's School, Jawalakhel, Kathmandu and appeared school leaving certificate (S.L.C.) from Padmodaya Madhyamik Vidhyalaya, under His Majesty’s Government Examination Board, Kathmandu, Nepal. From (1975-1978) He joined Saraswati Multiple Campus, Kathmandu and received certificate in commerce. He completed his Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree majoring in Business Management from H.L. College of Commerce, Ahemdabad Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India. He then moved to United States to receive masters of art degree. In 1983 he completed his Master's of Art in Government with emphasis in Public Administration from Claremont Graduate School, clarement, california, United States.

Personal life

Thapa is married to Sangeeta Thapa, who owns Nepal's prominent art gallery Siddhartha Art Gallery. He has one son, Siddhartha and a daughter Seetashma.
