Sri Gauri Mahatyam (English: Glory of Goddess Gauri) is a 1956 Telugu, swashbuckling fantasy film, produced by P. S. Seshachalam on Mahi Productions banner[3] and directed by D. Yoganand.[4] Starring N. T. Rama Rao, Sriranjani Jr. in the lead roles[5] and music composed by Ogirala Ramachandra Rao & T. V. Raju.[6]

Plot

Once upon a time there was a kingdom, it's King's (C.S.R) first wife Satyavathi Devi (P. Hemalatha) is an ardent devotee of Goddess Mangala Gauri and she named her daughter as Bala Gauri. King's second wife Satyabhama (Suryakala) is childless and is jealous of Queen. On the birthday of Gauri, Satyabhama poisons them, Satyavathi Devi dies but Gauri escapes. Gauri also develops same devotion like her mother towards the goddess. When she grows (Srirajani Jr.), Satyabhama orders gardener Thantalu (Relangi) to get a mad person as a bridegroom. But loyal Thantalu decides to stop this atrocity. In the forest, Thantulu is saved by a Prince Balaveera (N. T. Rama Rao). He promises Thantulu that he will act like a mad person and marry Gauri. After the marriage, Gauri feels happy knowing that her husband is not mad. When everything was going well, there comes to know a secret regarding Balaveera's lifespan. In Balaveera's childhood, his father Satyavrata (Srivatsa) is cursed by Lord Siva (Kanta Rao) when he throws an anointed pot on the idol which breaks into pieces and then Lord says that his son will live only that number of years as that number of pot pieces. So, Siva and Parvathi (Latha) had an argument. As per Shiva Balaveera does not live the long life and as per Parvathi's blessings, he should live long.

Lord Siva sends a snake to get the life of Balaveera. Parvathi wakes up Gauri and saves Balaveera. The second night Satyabhama leaves the snake into their room again Parvathi keeps her hand and leaves the snake in the forest and curses snake to live as a cruel human as Bhujanga (Mukkamala). Bhujanga gets the power of Trishula, goes to palace in search of Balaveera. With the help of Thantalu, Gauri & Balaveera escape to the forest and was attacked by tribal king Durjaya. He throws Balaveera into the river and takes away Gauri. In the palace, Raami (Suryakantham), servant of Gauri encourages Bhujanga to trace Gauri with his Trishula power and brings her back to palace. One saint rescues Balaveera and tells him to pray Goddess Parvathi to get relief from these problems and again leaves him in the river. With the help of Parvathi, he reaches Shankara Dweepam and starts praying her. Ultimately he wants to behead himself, then Parvathi gives him Chandrayudham. In the palace, Bhujangam tries to remove the sacred wedding chain of Gauri Mangalasutra. At this time Balaveera reaches there and uses Chandrayudham on Bhujangam and he uses Trishulam on him. Due to impact, huge calamity happens. Ultimately Balaveera throws Bhujangam into the fire. Bhuganjam transforms into a snake and bites Balaveera. Gauri holds the snake neck and throttles it, Finally, Lord Siva & Parvathi comes to the earth and makes Balaveera alive and the movie ends on a happy note.
