Plot

Rao Bahadur is a multimillionaire (Nagabhushanam) who lives along with his wife (Suryakantham), two sons, Ramu (Jaggayya) and Ranga (N. T. Rama Rao) and a daughter Shobha (Sandhya Rani), along with son-in-law Shankaram (Padmanabham). Rao Bahadur feels great about himself that he has earned a lot for the family. But realizes at the fag end of life that he lost much more valuable things in life that he did not take care of his family. His wife is always busy in devotional activities. Taking this as an advantage, a fake saint Sachidananda (Satyanarayana) settles in their house. The elder son Ramu has all bad habits, though he is already married, he left his wife Lakshmi (Savitri) because she is a traditional woman and comes under the trap of a dancer Maala (Vijayalalitha). Younger son Ranga, though good in nature and helps the poor, seeing such situations in the house, he too becomes a drunkard. Lastly, the daughter Shobha is also an ultra-modern women who is always roaming for the late night parties and her husband Shankara is a puppet in her hands. Even the servants in the house do not care or respect anybody in the family, except one loyal servant Musalaiah (Tyagaraju). During that time, the elder daughter-in-law Lakshmi enters the house and her husband asks for a divorce. She agrees to it, but requests him to stay along with her for some time as per law. Ranga gets closer to her sister-in-law and feels motherly affection from her. Due to her acquaintance, he gets relieved from the drinking habit. From that time, Ranga and Lakshmi try to set the family right one by one, firstly, they bring out the servants' secret selling of grocery and remaining cheatings. Then they play a drama and send the sister Shobha to her in-law's house along with her husband. Meanwhile, Musallaiah's niece Parvathi (Vanisri) joins as a helper to Lakshmi in household works and Ranga and Parvathi fall in love. Now they reveal the reality of Sachidananda, that he is a big burglar who is staying in the house to steal the entire property. Ranga dramatizes himself as a film director in disguise form and traps Maala, by which he teaches a lesson to Ramu and sends him back to his wife. When Ramu reaches home it is too late, Lakshmi got fed up and decides that she cannot get her husband's affection, so, she signs on the divorce papers and leaves the house to commit suicide. Ramu goes in search of her. At the same time, Satchidananda and his gang do a robbery in the house, Ranga follows them, sees the end of Satchidananda and gets him arrested. Ramu protects Lakshmi and brings her back. Finally, the entire family is reunited and the movie ends on a happy note, with the marriage of Ranga and Parvathi.
