Splendora High School is a public high school in unincorporated Montgomery County, Texas, United States. It is the only high school within the Splendora Independent School District. The school's attendance zone includes the cities of Splendora and Patton Village.[2] In 2017, the school received a "Met Standard" accountability rating from the Texas Education Agency.

Demographics

In the 2016-2017 school year, there were 1,108 students enrolled at Splendora High School, including 301 students in 9th grade, 293 in 10th grade, 283 in 11th grade, and 231 in 12th grade.[1] The ethnic distribution of students was as follows: 0.8% African American, 33.4% Hispanic, 64.5% White, 0.2% American Indian, and 1.1% Two or More Races. 51.1% of students were listed as Economically Disadvantaged. 4.1% were English Language Learners.

Academics

At the beginning of each school year, the Texas Education Agency rates school performance on four different indices: Student Achievement, Student Progress, Closing Performance Gaps, and Postsecondary Readiness. In 2017, Splendora High School met the agency's standard in each performance index.[3] In addition, the agency also awards schools with "Distinction Designations" if they outperform schools with similar demographics.[4] In 2017, Splendora High School did not achieve any of the possible seven Distinction Designations.[3]

Splendora High School has developed a partnership with Lone Star College–Kingwood to create the Splendora Early College High School program. Students enrolled in the program attend college courses, paid for by the school district, while also completing the requirements for a high school diploma. Students who complete the program will earn an associate's degree. College credit may also be applied for up to two years of a bachelor's degree.[5]

Athletics

In 2016, the school was classified as 5A, the second-largest designation, by the University Interscholastic League. Splendora High School had previously competed in class 4A, but increasing enrollment numbers bumped the school into a higher classification. The classification change convinced the district to invest $4.5 million in facility upgrades to accommodate larger schools and game attendance.[6]
