Sansa Dzrer (Armenian: Սասնա ծռեր Sasna tsřer) is an Armenian nationalist political party that was founded in September 2018 in the wake of the country's Velvet Revolution.[2] Sasna Dzrer was previously a radical political movement,[3] whose activities culminated in the 2016 Yerevan hostage crisis. The party, however, has renounced violence as a means of achieving its aims. Jirair Sefilian, a veteran of the Nagorno-Karabakh war, is one of the party's key figures.
Organisation
The party is led by a secretariat composed of seven members: Garegin Chugaszyan, Alek Yenikomshian, Gevorg Safaryan, Vahagn Avagyan, Arek Kyureghyan, Ruzan Yeghnukyan and Varuzhan Avetisyan.[4]
Ideology
Sansa Dzer opposes Armenia's former ruling party, which continues to hold a majority in the National Assembly. It calls for dissolution of the National Assembly and snap elections, and prosecution of the HHK's members.[5] De-facto party leader Jirair Sefilyan supports the creation of a United Armenia.
In terms of its foreign policy, the party is hardline anti-Russian, with its manifesto calling for “liberation of Armenia from Russian colonial rule,” and withdrawal from Russian-led organisations, including the Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organisation.[6] Party members have advocated a strategic alliance with the United States and closer cooperation with the European Union.
