A proposal to establish a Sandyford Business District Area to include the core Sandyford Industrial Estate/Business Park as well as the other areas mentioned above was successful and Sandyford BID CLG was formed in January 2017 with a view to developing the District into a world class business and residential district.

The area has capacity for 17,500 more employees, 350,000 sq m of commercial floor space and 1,000 residential units. [4]

The Luas Green Line was built through the Industrial Estate and the Kilmacud, Stillorgan, Sandyford and Central Park stops serve the area. All four of these stops are in the proposed Sandyford Business District. Sandyford was the Green Line terminus until the extension to Cherrywood opened in October 2010.[5]

In March 2018, Dublin Metro, rebranded as "Metrolink", is now planned to have its southern terminus at Sandyford, running alongside the Luas on upgraded tracks. The Metro is intended to stop alongside all the existing Luas stops from Sandyford to Beechwood and run underground the existing Green Line Luas stops of Ranelagh, Charlemont, St. Stephen's Green and O'Connell Street. The metro is scheduled to be completed in 2027, which will provide Sandyford with new mass transit links to the city centre, railway and Dublin Airport.[6]
