Sandusky Mall is an indoor shopping center located in Perkins Township, south of Sandusky, Ohio. It is located on the east side of Milan Road/US 250, north of the Ohio Turnpike/I-80/I-90 and Route 2. The mall comprises more than seventy stores, including one anchor store: JCPenney with three vacant anchors last occupied by Macy's, Sears and elder-beerman. JCPenney had previously operated a store downtown.[2] It is managed by Cafaro Company of Youngstown, Ohio.

History

Mall construction began in 1976 and Sandusky Mall opened in 1977. It original anchors includes JCPenney, Elder-Beerman, Kaufmann's, and Montgomery Ward (later Sears in 1986). The outdoor section, Child World closed in 1992 and later converted to OfficeMax in 1994, then closed in 2005. It was converted to K&K Home Furnishings in 2006, then closed in 2014. It later converted to a fitness center in 2015.

Kaufmann's later converted to Macy's in 2006. Borders added in 2007 as a first tenant. Borders closed in 2011, few months later, it was replaced by BAM!. TJ Maxx was added in 2009.

On April 7, 2016, Sears anounced that it's store would be closing in June 2016.[3]

On January 4, 2017, Macy's announced that it's store would also be closing as part of a plan to close 68 stores nationwide. The store closed in March 2017.[4]

On April 18, 2018, it was announced that Elder-Beerman would be closing as well in August 2018 as parent company The Bon-Ton is going out of business which will leave JCPenney as the only anchor left.[5]
