The San Diego Film Awards are presented annually by the Film Consortium San Diego to recognize the excellence of the film professionals in the San Diego film industry of cinema.

History

The 1st annual San Diego Film Awards occurred on March 6, 2014, at the Horton Grand Theatre in Downtown San Diego.[1] It was a sold out event and attended by San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer. Director William Wall took home the most awards of the night for his short film "Zero."[2][3] In 2015, the 2nd annual event was held on March 7 and returned to the same venue in the Gaslamp Quarter.[4] The 3rd annual event was held on Sunday, April 3, 2016 at the Music Box[5] in Little Italy where the San Diego Film Awards returned to again in 2017.[6] During the 4th award ceremony on April 2, 2017, radio personality "Shotgun" Tom Kelly was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award[7] and Director Terry Ross was awarded for Women in film.[8] The entire event was broadcast on San Diego CW6 one week later on Sunday, April 9.[9]

2018 eligibility

Films released between January 1, 2017 and December 1, 2017 and produced in San Diego County utilizing 80% cast, crew and locations from San Diego are eligible for the 2018 San Diego Film Awards in both student and professional categories. Student films must have been produced for an official college level or high school level class or workshop in order to be eligible for awards in student category.[10]
