Location

Rochor MRT station (DT13) is an underground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the Downtown Line in Rochor, Singapore.

Notable buildings in the proximity include Sim Lim Square, The Verge, the Lasalle College of the Arts and Tekka Centre. It is within walking distances to Little India MRT station, Bugis MRT station and Jalan Besar MRT station.

History

The construction of the station, along with Little India, was the most complicated rail project faced within the entire Downtown Line. Such challenges included different ground conditions, realign the 20-metre-wide and 200-metre-long Rochor Canal, which is nearby, to build the station. The canal was originally located in the middle of Rochor Canal Road and Sungei Road. The process to shift the canal to the right of Sungei Road started in mid-2010. Most of the major construction and realignment processes were completed by mid-2015. These efforts made to overcome was recognised by the Singapore Concrete Institute in the form of an excellence award in the builders' category in 20 November 2015.[1]

The station was opened along with other station on the DTL2 in December 2015.

Art in Transit

"Tracing Memories" by the LASALLE College of the Arts is an artwork that convey the impression of a motherboard. The artwork attempts to examine the binary reflections of what Singapore's youths share while living in a city through the latest gadgets and gear, as well as sentimentality for history, tradition and memorabilia.

The station's setting was used to film a terrorist scene in the Mediacorp Channel 8 military drama series When Duty Calls.
