Founded in 1948 as Rapid Metal Developments Ltd, as a subsidiary of Robert M Douglas Ltd,, the company received the Queens Award to Industry in 1975. RM Douglas was acquired by Interserve in 1991, and after Interserve's acquisition of Kwikform operations in the United Kingdom were transferred to RMD Kwikform in 1999.

In 2015 RMD Kwikform launched their new Ground Shoring range of products. The range extends RMD Kwikform's capabilities to ground works applications.
