Porus is a Historical-drama television series based on the Battle of the Hydaspes, visualizing the lives of Indian warrior and ruler Purushottam, King of the Pauravas and Alexander The Great, the Emperor and conqueror of a large part of the earth from Macedonia, Ancient Greece. It premiered on 27 November 2017 on Sony TV. The series depicts the story of 6, and later 7 Kingdoms - Paurav Rashtra, Macedonia, Taxila, Dasyu Lok, Persia, Bactria and Magadh.[2]

The show is created by Siddharth Kumar Tewary of Swastik Productions.[3][4] It is the most expensive show on Indian television, having a budget of about INR 500 crores (roughly USD 80 million).[5] In Sri Lanka, it airs on Sirasa TV, dubbed into Sinhala under the name Digvijaya.[6] The rights to the drama have also been sold to Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam.[7]

Plot

The drama focuses on the lives of Porus, King of the Pauravas and Alexander the Great, king of Macedonia, two monarchs whose fate brought them together in 326 BC at the Battle of the Hydaspes.

The show was hailed as 'visually captivating' by India Today.[36]

Pinkvilla called it the television version of the film Baahubali.[37]

Future

Porus, being a finite series will go off-air on 9th November, 2018. The last episodes will focus on the rise of Chandragupta Maurya which took place around the time of Porus' death. Swastik Pictures have decided to continue telling the story of Chandragupta Maurya through a new show on Sony TV which will replace Porus and air on the same time slot. Many key characters of Porus like Chanakya will be seen again in the new show with the same actors portraying them. The new show 'Chandragupt Maurya' will be in seamless continuity with the ending of Porus. It will probably go on-air from 12th November, 2018. It has been reported that talented actor Sourabh Raj Jain, who portrayed the characters of Krishna in Mahabharat & Mahadev in Mahakali among others, has been roped in for an important role in the show.
