Pokémon the Movie: The Power of Us[lower-alpha 1] is a 2018 Japanese animated adventure film produced by OLM and Wit Studio.[3][4][5] It is the 21st Pokémon movie released, and the second film in the rebooted anime film series. It is the sequel to Pokémon the Movie: I Choose You!, existing in a universe separate from the TV show. It is directed by Tetsuo Yajima and written by both Eiji Umehara (Grimoire of Zero) and Aya Takaha with character designs done by Shizue Kaneko (If Her Flag Breaks). It was released in Japan on July 13, 2018 and it will be the last Heisei period release of the series.[6][7] The Pokémon Company International and Fathom Events announced they will be releasing the film on a limited theatrical run worldwide on November 24, 2018.
Synopsis
Once a year, a "wind festival" is held in Fura City, the city where people live together with the wind. On the final day of the festival, the legendary Pokémon Lugia will appear and give the people the blessed wind, a promise said to date back to the distant past. Risa, a highschooler and Pokémon rookie. Callahan, a braggart that just can't stop telling tall tales. Toren, a timid researcher that lacks confidence. Harriet, an old eccentric that hates Pokémon. Margo, a mysterious little girl that hangs around in the forest all by herself. While they're participating in the festival, Ash and Pikachu meets these five companions by pure coincidence. Each of them has their own worries on their mind, and are unable to take a step forward together with their partner Pokémon, but when they meet each other, the cogs of destiny start turning...... Will the promise with Lugia be kept? And just what is the true identity of the mythical Pokémon Zeraora?

Production

Music
Regular series composer Shinji Miyazaki wrote the film's score for its original release. Porno Graffitti composes the ending theme of the song titled "Breath".[13]

Critical reception
Callum May of Anime News Network noted some poorly rendered 3D background characters and the familiarity in both Zeraora's arc and the overarching plot. He praised the film's ability to deliver multiple storylines (singling out Callahan's arc for showing "heartwarming moments of clarity") and memorable backgrounds in addition to the main cast's distinct character designs and animation. He concluded that "There is a possibility that the localisation won't be able to properly translate some aspects and may lose the tone of some important scenes, but if they manage to nail it, Pokémon fans are in for a standout film that reinvents the formula yet again."[15]
