Phrynobatrachus leveleve is a species of frogs in the Phrynobatrachidae family. It is endemic to São Tomé and Príncipe and is listed as least concern by the IUCN.[1] Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, rivers, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marshes, plantations, rural gardens, heavily degraded former forest, and ponds. They are founded on the island of São Tomé and Ilhéu das Rolas in areas up to 1,412 meters above sea level.[2][1]
Its type locality is at Caxueira at Água Pete Pete at an elevation of 50 m, it is located south of the city of São Tomé.
The species name is from the Forró name "leveleve" which derives from the Portuguese expression "leve leve". The expression means "easily", "slightly" "calmly" which accords with the inhabitant's spirit of the island to its authors. Expressing for a protective environment and a joyous prospects, they used the term to an endemic species, despite that oil deposits that were discovered than can disrupt the island's tranquility.[3]
