Pheu Chart Thai Party

The Pheu Chart Thai Party (Thai: พรรคเพื่อชาติไทย; RTGS: Phak Phuea Chat Thai; For Thai Nation Party) is a Thai political party founded by Ampapan Thanetdejsunthorn in 2018.[1] Ampapan was the "minor wife" of the late former Army chief, Armed Forces Headquarters Supreme Commander, and coup leader Sunthorn Kongsompong. Ampapan was at the center of a notorious corruption scandal in the early 2000s involving prolonged litigation with Sunthorn's legal wife, Khunying Col. Orachorn Kongsompong, after the general left most of his ฿6 billion ($134 million) estate to Ampapan, raising questions as to how he had managed to amass such a large fortune while notionally on a public salary.[2] Sunthorn's son is Apirat Kongsompong, a four-star general who as of 2018 is Assistant Army Commander, and is tipped as favorite for next army chief; he is known to be a close associate of King Vajiralongkorn.
