Paul Masterton (born 2 November 1985) is a Scottish Conservative politician who was elected at the 2017 snap general election as the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Renfrewshire.[1][2][3] Masterton had previously stood as a candidate for the Scottish Parliament at the 2016 Scottish Parliament election.[4]

Early life

Paul Masterton MP was born on 2nd November 1985 in Edinburgh. After attending Buckstone Primary School and George Watson's College, Paul went on to study Law at the University of Dundee.

After graduating in 2007, Masterton worked for a short time in Northern Ireland before settling in Glasgow. Masterton worked as a Solicitor for the international Law firm McGrigors, latterly Pinsent Masons, for 9 years, specialising in Pensions Law. Prior to entering politics, Paul Masterton was also Chair of his local Community Council.

Parliamentary Career

Paul Masterton first stood in the 2016 Scottish Parliament election as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for Paisley, however he was unsuccessful. Masterton received 3,533 votes[5]. Masterton stood again in the 2017 snap general election, this time as a candidate in East Renfrewshire. Masterton was successful, receiving 21,496 votes.[1]

Paul is the co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on British Jews.[6]

In 2017 Masterton received a Christmas card describing him as a traitor because of his support of continued membership of the European Union in the 2016 referendum.[7]
