Alister William Jack[1] (born in Dumfries in 1963) is a Scottish Conservative Party politician. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dumfries and Galloway[2] since June 2017.[3]
Jack was born in Dumfries[4] and raised in Dalbeattie and Kippford. He was educated at Glenalmond College. He is married and has three grown-up children.[5] He is a businessman and farmer.[6] He chairs the River Annan Fishery Board and Trust and Galloway Woodlands.[5]
In 1997 Jack fought Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale, but came third, being defeated by the Liberal Democrat future Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore.
He is a member of the Treasury Select Committee.[2]
Jack is a member of the European Research Group of Conservative MPs and signed a letter by the group to the Prime Minister on 16 February 2018, making suggestions about the way Britain should leave the European Union.[7]
Jack was appointed Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to the Leader of the House of Lords on Friday 31st August 2018.[8]
