Pattegar (also spelt as Patvegar, Patewegar, Patwegar, Patvekari, Pategar & Pattagar) or Patkar (Khatri) is a Hindu community predominantly residing in the Indian states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. They wear the sacred thread[1] and claim to be Kshatriyas.[2][3] Nowadays they call themselves as Somavamshiya Sahasrarjun Kshatriyas[4][5] or SSK Samaj.[6][7]

All of them follow Hinduism.[8]They claim their lineage to legendary king Sahasrarjuna and celebrate Sahasrarjuna Jayanti.[9][10]

Language

The Pattegars speak a language called Pattegari or Khatri or Saurashtra[11], a dialect of Gujarati with the amalgamation of present day Sanskrit, Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and Kannada.[12]
