Plot

Martandam (Nagabhushanam) is a diamond merchant, with wife, Rajalakshmi (Rukmini) and children, Chandram and Ramu. Martandam is money-minded and will not hesitate to do anything about it. He has a driver, Manikyam (Dhulipala), who lives with pregnant wife Kantam and daughter Seeta. Martandam poisons a Zamindar, grabbing his diamonds and throws the murder case on Manikyam. On hearing this, Manikyam's wife goes into shock and dies after giving birth to a child. Their neighbor Rangamma (Nirmalamma) takes elder daughter Seeta and leaves the newborn in the hospital. Rajyalakshmi takes the responsibility of the second child and gives to James (Ch. Narayana Rao), a childhood friend of Martandam. James is wealthy as well as kind-hearted and well-respected person in society. He adopts the baby and brings her up as Mary. Meanwhile, Manikyam escapes from the police and on seeing his wife's death, becomes furious, goes to kill Martandam, but he escapes. So, Manikyam kidnaps his younger son Ramu and throws him on the railway track, but he is rescued by Ismail (Chittor V. Nagaiah). Police arrest Manikyam and he is sentenced to 14 years. Ismail lives in Martanda Peta, which belongs to Martandam, where Ismail along with his friends Sastry, Jesudas create the livelihood for the people in that area.

Years roll by, Ramu grows up in the name Rahim (N. T. Rama Rao) and possesses all the good qualities of Ismail. Rahim keeps people in that area in harmony. James takes care of the welfare of the people in that area. Chandram (Kanta Rao) and Mary (Lakshmi) grow up together and they are good friends. Rajalakshmi wants to perform their marriage as a penance of her husband’s sin. Martandam also agrees for it to grab the wealth of James. But Chandram and Mary do not have any such idea and they feel like brother and sister. Chandram falls in love with Seeta (Rajasri), elder daughter of Manikyam. Once, Mary sees Rahim's good nature, starts liking him and both of them fall in love. Martandam wants to sell his land to the foreigners, which people in the colony do not agree to, where clashes arise between Rahim and Martandam. Meanwhile, Chandram leaves for police training and Martandam comes to know of his love affair with Seeta. So, he warns her and says that his son's marriage is already fixed. Before dying, Rangamma reveals to Seeta that she is the daughter of Manikyam and of the injustice Martandam has done to their family. Seeta tries to commit suicide, but she is saved by Rahim and he takes her to their colony.

Manikyam is released from jail and meets Rajalakshmi. She tells him that she has saved his younger daughter who is brought up by James and also says that she is going to make her the daughter-in-law. Manikyam meets James and keeps him as his driver. Martandam and James are making Chandram and Mary's marriage arrangements, which Mary refuses and says that she loves Rahim. To get rid of Rahim, Martandam throws acid on him and his face gets disfigured. Even then Mary loves Rahim. Simultaneously, Ismail becomes sick and before dying, he reveals the birth secret of Rahim. Martandam wants to grab the colony at any cost, so, he implicates Rahim in a false case, sends him to jail and vacates the colony. Manikyam meets Rahim in jail, requests him to get rid of Mary's life and also reveals he has done sin for their family that he has thrown his younger son on the railway track. Then Rahim understands that he is Martandam’s son. Time passes, Rahim is released from the jail, when he reaches the colony it is empty and sees the people starving with hunger. He requests money from Rajalakshmi and gets some, but Martandam gives a police complaint that he has done the robbery. Chandram goes to arrest him and suspects the relation between Seeta and Rahim. In anger, he starts beating Rahim, Rajyalakshmi stops him and tells him that she herself gave that money to Rahim. In that conversation, they come to know that Seeta is Manikyam’s daughter and she meets her father. James also reveals that Mary is also Manikyam’s daughter. Manikyam happily gets back his children. Chandram also realizes his mistake and apologizes to Seeta. Rahim makes the marriage arrangements of Chandram and Seeta. During the time of marriage, Manikyam feels sorry and tells Rajyalakshmi that he is the person who has kidnapped their younger son and they also come to know Rahim is Ramu. Knowing about the marriage, Martandam moves to stop it. Rahim obstructs his way, so he sets him on fire. At the same time, Manikyam and Rajalakshmi arrive and tell him that Rahim is none other than Ramu. So, he immediately rushes to protect Rahim, but loses his eyesight. He says that he has got right punishment for his sins and asks Rahim / Ramu to give his entire property to destitute people and surrenders himself to the police. Finally, the entire family is reunited and the movie ends on the happy note with the marriage of Rahim & Mary.
