Nicholas Clayton "Nick" Mullens (born March 21, 1995) is an American football quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Southern Miss Golden Eagles football team.[1][2][3]

College career

Mullens passed for 1,776 yards as a freshman in 2013 and 2,470 yards as sophomore in 2014. In the 2015 regular season, he had completed 291-of-453 passes for 3,964 yards and 35 touchdowns and ranked sixth among NCAA Division I FBS quarterbacks in passing yardage.

Mullens finished his collegiate career at Southern Miss as the career passing leader in every statistical category.[4]

On October 1, 2016, against the Rice Owls, he threw for a collegiate career-high 591 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception in the 44–28 victory.[5]

Professional career

After going undrafted during the 2017 NFL Draft, Mullens signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers on May 4, 2017.[7] He was waived by the team on September 2, 2017 and was signed to the practice squad the next day.[8][9] He signed a reserve/future contract with the 49ers on January 2, 2018 after spending his entire rookie season on the practice squad.[10]

On September 1, 2018, Mullens was waived by the 49ers and was signed to the practice squad the next day.[11][12] Mullens was promoted to the active roster on September 26 after starter Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a season-ending torn ACL.[13]
