Neram Nadi Kadu Akalidi (English: Crime is not mine it's Hunger's) is a 1976 Telugu Action drama film, produced by Y. V. Rao under the Ravi Chitra Films banner[2] and directed by S. D. Lal.[3] It stars N. T. Rama Rao and Manjula in the lead roles,[4] with music composed by Satyam.[5] The film is a remake of the Hindi movie Roti (1974), starring Rajesh Khanna and Mumtaz in the pivotal roles.

Plot

The film begins with Sriramulu (Kanta Rao), a lineman in railways along with his friend Raghavaiah (Gummadi). Once they observe somebody trying to derail the track, they avert it. The gang leader Ranjeet (Tyagaraju) shoots Sriramulu, he dies and Raghavaiah loses his eyesight. After some time, Sriramulu’s wife also dies leaving their son Vikram as an orphan. Out of hunger, Vikram becomes a thief and he joins in Ranjeet's gang unknowingly. Twenty years roll by, Vikram (N. T. Rama Rao) becomes a daredevil gangster. Somehow he wants to leave this profession when Ranjit comes to know that person whom he killed at railway track is Vikram’s father. Ranjeet asks Vikram to do the last task of exchanging diamonds and sends his men behind Vikram to kill him after completing the task. Vikram trashes them and comes to know the reality of Ranjit, so, he secretly hands over the diamonds to Police. After that, Vikram fights with a goon for the sake of a poor old lady. Unfortunately, the goon dies, Vikram is arrested, in the court, he argues It is not his crime it is hunger's and he is sentenced to 8 years. Ranjeet is after Vikram for the diamonds, so they attack the police while they are shifting him to jail. To save a police officer S. P. Rao (Prabhakar Reddy) from the gangsters, Vikram surrenders himself to them. Police chase them and their vehicle gets blasts, but Vikram escapes. Everyone thinks that Vikram is also dead. Now he decides to leave his past and lead a respectable life. Vikram catches a train in which a person by the name of Sravan (Murali Mohan) recognizes him as a thief by the handcuffs on his hands and the clash arises between them. In that quarrel, Sravan falls into the water.

Vikram reaches a village where a blind couple Raghavaiah and Seetamma, who are waiting for their son’s friend Vijay (Raja Babu). They mistake Vikram as Vijay and give him shelter. In that village, Vikram gets acquainted with a beautiful girl Gowri (Manjula) and both of them fall in love. In the conversation, Vikram comes to know that Raghavaiah is his father Sriramulu’s friend and Raghavaiah says that he can recognize the culprit who killed his father with his metal shoe sound. Punyakoti (Allu Ramalingaiah), a moneylender harasses Raghavaiah to hand over his house for the debt he has taken and Vikram protects them by teaching a lesson to Punyakoti. In that process, Vikram gets back Punyakoti’s missing daughter Lakshmi (Prabha) and Punyakoti realizes his mistake and gives back the house papers. After that, Vikram is shocked to realize that Sravan is the son of Raghavaiah and Sitamma, when he suffers out of contrition, reveals the truth to Raghaviah and Seetamma even to Gowri and asks them to punish him. They all forgive him and the Raghavaiah couple accept him as their son. The couple wants to go for a pilgrimage, so Vikram takes them along with Gowri. On one side, S. P. Rao and on another side, Ranjit’s gang chase him. He continues his journey by protecting his family from both of them. Surprisingly, Sravan is alive but he loses one limb, comes there to take revenge against Vikram, but by seeing the services he is doing to his parents, he changes his mind and accepts Vikram as his brother. Eventually, Ranjit and police reach there, Ranjit kidnaps Gowri, where Raghiaviah recognizes him by his shoe sound and tells Vikram that Ranjit is the person who killed his father. At that time, Police surround him, but he escapes, saves Gowri, takes his revenge against Ranjit and again protects S. P. Rao placing his life at risk. At last, Vikram surrenders himself to Police, the court understands his upright nature, acknowledges him for the help he has done for the department and release him. Finally, the movie ends on a happy note with the marriage of Vikram and Gowri.
