Miss Bénin (formerly known as Miss Dahomey) is the national beauty pageant in Benin.

History

Miss Bénin was founded for the first time in 1962. Since that year Miss Benin was named as Miss Dahomey (an African kingdom which lasted from about 1600 until 1900).[1] The country competed at Miss Universe 1962 in Miami, Florida, United States.[2] Nowadays, the winner of the local pageant will be naming as Miss Benin.

The committee of Miss Benin organizes Miss Benin competition to select its winner to be an ambassador of her country. The main winner does not participate at Miss Universe since 1963. The last Miss Benin who participated at Miss Universe was Gilette Hazoume.

Main purposes

The Miss Benin purpose is to promote beauty of Benin and to become a culture ambassador of Benin.
