Michelle W. "Miki" Bowman is an American attorney who is currently a Kansas banking commissioner. [1] She was nominated by President Donald Trump in April, 2018 to be a member of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors, which is a position that must be confirmed by the US Senate.[2][3]
Early life and education
Bowman graduated from a Bachelor of Science Degree in Advertising and Journalism from the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She later earned a Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law in Topeka.
Professional experience
Bowman worked for Senator Bob Dole. She later served as a counsel to the US House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and Committee on Government Reform and Oversight.
Bowman was appointed by President George W. Bush as Director of Congressional and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and later was shifted, upon its establishment, to the Department of Homeland Security as Deputy Assistant Secretary and Policy Advisor to Secretary Tom Ridge.[1]
Banking
Bowman is a fifth-generation banker from Council Grove, Kansas. She joined Farmers & Drovers Bank as Vice President in 2010, where she served as a director, compliance officer and trust officer.[4] She became a Kansas banking commissioner on January 31, 2017,[1] after being nominated by Kansas Governor Sam Brownback in late 2016.
