Professional career
Concepcion began boxing professionally on 6 December 2003,[2] with his first bout being won by knockout,[3] a theme that would be repeated 6 more times[4][5][1][6][7][8] until 3 December 2004,[2] when he won his first bout by decision.[9] He racked up another KO[10] before two more points, wins[11][12] going 11-0-0. Three straight losses followed[13][14][15] when he "stepped up" to stronger opposition (his first 10 opponents had a combined record of 67-358-18 while the next 3 combined ran 32-9-5).
He appeared on The Contender Challenge: UK vs. USA,[16] boxing for the UK, where he was beaten by Alfonso Gomez.[17]
He got probably the biggest win of his career immediately following the Gomez fight, stopping the then undefeated Matthew Hall (boxer) in an exciting one round affair.[18] Concepcion dropped Hall badly with a left hook as Hall was putting the pressure on him, Hall got up, seemingly hurt Concepcion with a shot of his own, then got dropped again by a right hand. Hall got up again, but Concepcion pressed him with a flurry of punches and the referee stopped the fight. He followed that win with a brutal third round stoppage loss to Bradley Pryce,[19] and from then on he got mostly wins against journeyman opposition.[20][21][22][23][24]
He won the British Midlands Light Middleweight belt[23] and had two tough, entertaining fights with Kevin Hammond in which he successfully defended it.[25][26]
He fought Sam Webb (boxer) for the British Light Middleweight title, where he was game but Webb soundly outboxed him and ultimately stopped him in the 11th round of their match.[27]
Five more fights followed including one with Nick Blackwell.[28][29][30][31][32]
