A village is an incorporated urban municipality in the Canadian province of Manitoba.[1] Under current legislation, a community must have a minimum population of 1,000 and a minimum density of 400 people per square kilometre to incorporate as an urban municipality.[2] As an urban municipality, the community has the option to be named a village, town or urban municipality.[2] It also has the option of being named a city once it has a minimum population of 7,500.[2]
Manitoba has 19 villages, which have a cumulative population of 9,346 and an average population of 492 in the 2011 Census.[3] The province's largest and smallest villages are St-Pierre-Jolys and Waskada with populations of 1,099 and 183 respectively.[3]
