Kim Tae-yeon, better known by the mononym Taeyeon, is a South Korean singer. She debuted in 2007 as a member of girl group Girls' Generation and initially achieved several awards and nominations for her early solo endeavors. In 2008, she won a Golden Disc Award in the Popularity category and a Cyworld Digital Music Award for Song of the Month with the song "If", which she recorded for the South Korean television series Hong Gil-dong. She also earned two MBC Drama Awards and a Mnet 20's Choice Award for her radio show Taeyeon's Chin Chin Radio in 2009.

Taeyeon's debut extended play I was released in 2015 to commercial success, peaking at number two on the Gaon Album Chart and has sold over 145,000 copies in South Korea.[1] The title track "I" peaked atop the Gaon Digital Chart and has sold over 1.8 million units.[2] I earned multiple awards and nominations, including a Gaon Chart Music Award for Song of the Year – October and a Golden Disc Award in the Digital category. Taeyeon herself achieved Best Female Artist at both the Mnet Asian Music Awards in 2015 and Golden Disc Awards in 2016. The title track "I" raked in a total of eleven trophies on five music programs including Inkigayo, M Countdown, Music Bank, Show! Music Core, and Show Champion.

In 2016, Taeyeon released her second extended play Why and two digital singles, "Rain" and "11:11". Why peaked atop the Gaon Album Chart[3] and yielded two singles, "Starlight" and "Why", which were both nominated for Song of the Year – June at the 2016 Gaon Chart Music Awards. The singles "Rain" and "11:11" were also nominated for Song of the Year – February and November, respectively, at the same ceremony. "Rain" also achieved multiple awards and nominations, including a Golden Disc Award in the Digital category and two Mnet Asian Music Award nominations for Song of the Year and Best Female Vocal Performance. Taeyeon herself won another Mnet Asian Music Award for Best Female Artist and a Melon Music Award for Top 10 Artists in 2016. She additionally earned three trophies on music programs for three songs–"Rain", "Starlight", and "Why".

Taeyeon's first studio album titled My Voice was released in February 2017 and produced a lead single titled "Fine". The album was well-received and earned Taeyeon multiple awards and nominations, including a Golden Disc Award in the Physical Category and her first nomination at the Korean Music Awards for Best Pop Album. In December 2017, Taeyeon released her first special extended play, This Christmas - Winter Is Coming. The title track "This Christmas" earned her a Song of the Year - December nomination at the 2017 Gaon Chart Music Awards. Following her success in 2017, she released her third extended play (fourth overall), Something New in June 2018.
