Lichfield District Council is a non metropolitan district council, which covers the district of Lichfield in Staffordshire, England. It was formed in 1974 from Lichfield City Council and Lichfield Rural District Council.[1] The council offices are located at the District Council House on Frog Lane (52°40′52″N 1°49′38″W / 52.681180°N 1.827103°W / 52.681180; -1.827103Coordinates: 52°40′52″N 1°49′38″W / 52.681180°N 1.827103°W / 52.681180; -1.827103), in the centre of Lichfield.

Since 2011, Lichfield has formed part of the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership along with neighbouring authorities Birmingham, Bromsgrove, Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Redditch, Solihull, Tamworth and Wyre Forest.

Political Control

The council is majority Conservative controlled[2] and the leader since 2010 has been Mike Wilcox,[3] who succeeded David Smith.[2]

Before May 2011, the second largest group was the Liberal Democrat and Independent Alliance set up after the 2007 elections. They were made up of Liberal Democrat and independent councillors.[4]

At the 2011 elections the Conservatives retained overall control. The Liberal Democrats and Independent councillors lost all of their 7 seats at the election. Of the 56 seats, the council is divided between Conservatives (46) and Labour (10).[5]
