The New Jersey Libertarian Party (NJLP) is the state affiliate of the national Libertarian Party in New Jersey. The chairman is Kevin Lowery.[2]

Until 2001 New Jersey did not allow registering to vote as anything other than Democrat, Republican, or Independent. This was ruled unconstitutional in 2001 after a lawsuit was brought by a coalition of political parties, including the NJLP. Since then registration have grown; in 2016, 5,653 registered as Libertarians.[3] As of September 30, 2018, there were 10,734 registered Libertarians in the state.[4]

In January 2018 Murray Sabrin announced his intention to run for the US Senate under the New Jersey Libertarian Party.[17]
