Kentucky Route 101 (KY 101) is a north–south highway traversing three counties in south central Kentucky.

Route description

KY 101 northbound on the border of Warren and Edmonson counties

KY 101 originates at the corner of Main and Court Streets in downtown Scottsville where its KY 100 junction is located. It crosses U.S. Route 31E before going northward to Meador, and then into Warren County. [2]

It then passes Threeforks and Kepler, and then intersects the concurrently running U.S. 68 and KY 80. Less than a mile later, it traverses the Exit 38 interchange of Interstate 65 at Smiths Grove. After passing through downtown Smiths Grove, KY 101 then has a concurrency of its own, with US 31W before reaching Edmonson County. [3]

The route then traverses the community of Chalybeate, and then reaches its northern terminus at the KY 259 junction at Rhoda.

History

In 2001, the final stretch of KY 101 between Chalybeate and Rhoda, along with KY 259 from Rhoda to Brownsville was re-routed onto a straighter alignment that is also known as the Veterans Memorial Highway. [4][5] The original alignment of KY 101 in that area was re-designated as Kentucky Route 3019.

In mid-to-late 2010, KY 101 in the Chalybeate area was reconstructed, and was realigned to bypass the town. The old alignment in that area was redesignated as KY 3611, which became the shortest signed state route in Edmonson County once the designation was assigned in 2013.
