Kathi Darbar

The Kathi Darbar is a caste found in the peninsular Kathiawar (now called Saurashtra) region of Gujarat, western India.[1][2]

History and origin

The Kathis are said to have given their name to the Kathiawar region. They are said to be descended from the Sura, an ancient race of sun worshipers found in western India. According to their traditions, they are descended from Kush, the son of the Hindu god Ram.[3]

The original Kathi are of 8 surnames (1) Patgir (2) Padva (3) Nata (4) Nared (Jatvada) (5) Manjariya (6) Tohariya (7) Guliya (8) Gariba. other wise there are kathi of more than 132 surmnames[4]

Kanthkot was the main capital of Kathi in Kutch in the 8th century and its original name was Kathakot. It is only after the name of Kanthkot that the Kathi dynasty had been in power since 1500 years in power and in political and general matters, the devotional writers of Swaminarayan Sampraday in any way, unconsciously uncivilized The history that misrepresents that history is considered unknowable.[5]

Present circumstances

There are two classes of Kathis: 1) Shakhayat and 2) Avaratiya.Shakhayat is Rajput and Avaratiya is original kathi or shakhayat is suryavansha and Avaratiya Is Suryapujak. The Shakhayat branch of Kathis includes Khachar, Khuman, Vala and others. They were the rulers. The Avatariya branch of Kathis includes Vichhiya, Dhadhal, Basiya, Kotila, Geed Varu, Dhakhada, Jebaliya, Patgir, Manjariya and others. They possessed big villages or vast stretches of land and so they were known as Ghardhani Kathis. (i.e. landed gentry)[6]

Kathi people are horse lovers and keep Kathiawari horses, which are known worldwide.[2][7]
