Kaili (simplified Chinese: 凯里; traditional Chinese: 凱裡; pinyin: Kǎilǐ) is a county-level city under the administration of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, in southeastern Guizhou province, People's Republic of China. It is the center of Miao culture, hosting more than 120 festivals every year.[1] Kaili has a population of 478,642 in 2010[2] and is a major producer of rice.

History

What stands out most prominently is its burgeoning education system. Highlighted by the efforts of Qiandongnan National Polytechnic College (QDNY), Kaili is emerging onto the Guizhou scene. QDNY's first international teachers arrived in the Fall of 2011 and helped cement QDNY as Kaili's premier educational institution. The volunteer teachers stayed for two years. Kaili is also home to Kaili University.

A significant population of Miao and Gejia (officially classified as Miao) live in Kaili. Kaili is host to more than 120 Miao festivals throughout the year. The Miao are known for arts and crafts, including jewelry, embroidery, brocade, batik, and papercutting.[1]

Kaili experiences a monsoon-influenced humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cwa/Cfa) with cool, dry winters and hot, wet summers. Kaili's area is 1,306 km2 (504 sq mi). The postal code for Kaili is 556000.

Miao-style sour fish soup is the traditional food in Kaili. Miao-style sour fish soup is made with tomatoes, Thai chili pepper, garlic, ginger, salt and some oil. The fish that is put into the pot is the catfish because it does not have so much bone and it is tasty. The soup is not very fat and it is healthy for your stomach. It can allow your stomach to more easily absorb nutrition and digest food. Especially, eating Miao-style sour fish soup can also treat stomach ache. It can let your stomach restore normally.
