K-147 is a 26-mile-long (42 km) state highway in west-central Kansas. It runs from K-4 near Brownell to Ogallah just north of Interstate 70 (I-70). The highway south of I-70 is part of the Smoky Valley Scenic Byway.[1]

Route description

From its southern terminus at K-4 east of Brownell, K-147 heads northward to provide access to Cedar Bluff State Park. The highway runs along the top of Cedar Bluff Dam, at the east end of Cedar Bluff Reservoir. It then continues in a generally northern direction past its junction with I-70 and U.S. Route 40, at exit 135. At the junction with the former alignment of US-40, K-147 turns right and reaches its northern terminus in Ogallah at Centre Street.[3]

K-147 is two lanes and undivided for its entire length.

History

K-147 was established in 1955, along its current route from K-4 to US-40.[4] When I-70 was built, US-40 was re-routed along the Interstate as well, and by 1960, K-147 was extended 0.1 miles (160 m) east to its present northern terminus.[1][5]
