John William Wetzel (born July 18, 1991) is an American football offensive tackle for the Arizona Cardinals of the National Football League (NFL). He was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2013. He played college football at Boston College.

Oakland Raiders

On April 29, 2013, Wetzel was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Oakland Raiders.[2] On August 20, he was waived/injured by the Raiders.[3] On the next day, he cleared waivers and was placed on the injured reserve list. On August 24, he was waived from the team with an injury settlement.

Dallas Cowboys

On November 12, 2013, he was signed by the Dallas Cowboys to the practice squad. On January 8, 2014, Wetzel signed a reserve/future contract.[4] On August 31, he was waived.[5] On September 2, he was signed to the practice squad.[6] On January 12, 2015, he signed another reserve/future contract.[7]

On September 5, 2015, Wetzel was waived by the Cowboys.[8] On September 7, 2015, he was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad after clearing waivers.[9] On November 12, he was released.[10]

Indianapolis Colts

On November 24, 2015, Wetzel signed with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad.[11] He was released by the Colts on December 1.[12]

Arizona Cardinals

On December 9, 2015, the Arizona Cardinals signed Wetzel to their practice squad.[13] On January 26, 2016, he signed a future/reserve contract.[14] The Arizona Cardinals began starting Wetzel as their left tackle after October 31, 2016, to replace injured starting left tackle Jared Veldheer.[15] On March 7, 2017, Wetzel signed an exclusive-rights tender from the Cardinals.[16] On April 18, he signed a one-year deal.[17] He started 11 games at left tackle for the Cardinals in 2017 in placed of the injured D. J. Humphries.[18] On April 3, 2018, Wetzel signed another one-year deal to stay with the Cardinals.[19]
