Jaspreet Kaur[1] is an Indian film producer. She produced a Bengali film C/O Sir in 2013.[2] She is the founder and CEO of KR Movies and Entertainment[3] - an Indian Film and Television Production House which produces and distributes movies, interactive television and online content. She produced Bengali Film Bawal (film)[4] in 2015 and Cholai 2016.Now she is financing a documentary on Irom Chanu Sharmila directed by Babar Naam Gandhiji famed Pavel[5].

Career

A computer science engineer by training and a VFX & animation hobbyist, Jaspreet quit a job with a multinational company to join Vancouver Film School to pursue her dream of filmmaking.

She returned to India to work for several leading studios in Mumbai and Hyderabad, such as Prime Focus, Reliance Media Works, Firefly, and Prana; initially she worked as a Senior Compositor, and subsequently as a VFX Producer for dozens of Hollywood, Bollywood, and Indian regional productions. Not ready to settle down, Jaspreet decided to set up her own Film Production House to tell stories she felt strongly about.When KR Movies made their first theatrical release (C/O Sir)[6] in 2013[7] with a National Award-winning director, Jaspreet was the youngest woman producer in Eastern India. 'C/O Sir' went on to become the first Bengali Film to have a theatrical release in Singapore.[8] Since then Jaspreet has produced 3 feature-length movies; the last being 'Cholai' which premiered in Cannes Film Festival 2016[9][10] and has been nominated in 6 categories and including one win (Best Supporting Actress) in Madrid Film Festival 2016[11] including Best Film, Best Supporting Actress and Best Director. She is also the co-creator of one-of-a-kind interactive TV series based on Motion Capture and 3D animation. Currently in its 3rd season in India, currently Jaspreet is negotiating a deal with one of the largest Hollywood Production House to license the technology platform.

Apart from handling operations at KR Movies, Jaspreet's role in her projects primarily include securing funds, working with co-producers, investors and distributors. She has often played a role of an executive producer in her projects contributing significantly to getting the right team together, overall program management and oversight. Tapping on her creative side, she continues to be a hands on member of the team often getting closely involved in VFX production, costume design, art direction and editing.

Recognition

Cholai was awarded with two Filmfare in the Jio Filmfare Awards (East) 2017. It won the awards for Best Dialogue (Subhomay Chatterjee) & Critics' Best Film (Arun Roy).[12]
